COLUMBUS, OH (FOX19) - A Warren County judge has ruled that taxpayers must pay for some expert witnesses in the third trial of Ryan Widmer.

Warren County Judge Neal Bronson has authorized the payment of two of the five experts that the defense has requested. The defense originally asked the judge to declare him indigent and approve almost $50,000 for five experts.

One of the approved experts is Dr. Michael Balko, who is an anatomical pathologist with subspecialties of neuropathology and forensic pathology. He testified in the first trial but not the second.

The other expert that was approved is Dr. Chandler Philips. Philips was called to testify in the first trial but did not appear. He did testify in the second trial.

Bronson approved $11,000 for the witnesses.

Widmer is facing his third trial in the death of his wife, Sarah, in 2008 in their Hamilton Township home.

In the first trial Widmer was found guilty, but the ruling was overturned due to jury misconduct. Widmer's second trial ended in a hung jury.

The third trial is scheduled to begin later this month.
