Semi truck nearly split in half in Boone County after being hit by train

WALTON, KY (FOX19) - A tractor trailer was nearly split in half in Boone County when it was hit by a train Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Boone County Sheriff's Department, at about 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday a semi truck was stopped on train tracks on Shoreland Drive near U.S. 25 in Walton when it was hit by a train. Sheriff's Deputies are still investigating the accident, but it appears the tractor trailer was stopped straddling the tracks when it was hit by the train.

Eric Gibson, 25, of Detroit, Michigan, was driving the truck and was not injured in the accident. According to the Sheriff's deputies, Gibson was stopped at the stoplight at U.S. 25 and Shoreland Drive.

Traffic is being re-routed to Old Lexington Pike until the scene is cleared. The truck is owned by R & E Transportation out of Southfield, Michigan.
