CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati city leaders are introducing the city's new fire chief at a news conference Friday.

Richard A. Braun has been serving as assistant fire chief with the Columbus Division of Fire for the past 11 years. He has been with the Columbus Fire Division for more than 36 years. He will officially start as Cincinnati's chief on January 18.

The new chief will have to deal with possible cuts to his budget next year after the fire department avoided firefighter layoffs in the city budget for 2011.

"This is where Chief Braun's abilities in strategic planning, resource allocation, and rapport building will be especially useful right off the bat," said City Manager Milton Dohoney.

Braun replaces former chief Robert Wright, who retired.
