Two seriously hurt in accident on I-71

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Two people are sent to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries, after a two vehicle accident on northbound I-71 near the 75 mile marker around 6:15 pm.

Benjamin Patrick, 21, of Akron, Ohio, was driving northbound when he lost control of his vehicle on the icy surface and slid sideways into the rear of the tractor trailer which was nearly stopped. Patrick was not injured in the accident.

Rear seat passenger Joseph McGee sustained what are considered life-threatening injuries and front seat passenger William Cardina, 20, sustained serious injuries. Both were taken to University Hospital.

The crash is under investigation. Police say that no one in the car was wearing a seat belt and the car was driving too fast for conditions.
