CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati and Hamilton County both swore in new leaders on Wednesday.

Former Cincinnati City Council member Chris Monzel was publicly sworn in as the third Hamilton County commissioner, joining Todd Portune and Greg Hartmann.

Monzel took the oath of office on Dec. 31, 2010 for a four-year term. Wednesday's ceremony allowed guests to share in Monzel's transition to a new role.

Monzel served for nine years on Cincinnati City Council before he was elected to the Board of Commissioners.

"We certainly face many challenges in Hamilton County as far as balancing our budget, job creation and economic development," he said. "I believe our team brings the energy, professional experience and a spirit of cooperation to get the job done."

Taking Monzel's place on city council is Amy Murray, who was sworn in at city council's first meeting of 2011.

Murray comes at the recommendation of the Hamilton County Republican Party and was officially appointed by fellow Republicans and councilmembers Leslie Ghiz and Charlie Winburn.
