Jury selection begins in Ryan Widmer's third murder trial

LEBANON, OH (FOX19) - Jury selection starts Tuesday in Ryan Widmer's third trial. Prosecutors say he drowned his wife, Sarah, in their Hamilton Township home in 2008.

Widmer's 2009 murder conviction was thrown out over juror misconduct. Jurors in his second trial last year failed to reach a unanimous verdict.

This time, prosecutors claim they have a mystery witness who reportedly heard a confession from Widmer.

It is still undecided if the court will allow the prosecution's lead witness, Hamilton Township Police Detective Jeff Braley, to be questioned about his job application. The defense claims Braley lied about his education and work experience on the application, but Braley claims the application was altered. An investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Identification determined the application was not tampered with.

The jury will not be sequestered in this case.
