FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19) - Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Pfc. Zachary S. Salmon, 21, of Harrison, Ohio, died Jan. 12 in Kunar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
Funeral services for Pfc. Zachary S. Salmon will be held on Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Burial services will be held at Riverview Cemetery, Aurora, Ind.
Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
