Woman who stole money from local swim club is sentenced

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, (FOX19) -- A woman who was convicted of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from a swim club is sentenced on Wednesday.

Lynn Gottschalk stole $150 thousand from the Sycamore Flying Fish Swim Team during the five years she served as a volunteer to handle to club's money.

According to the current treasurer, Jim Morrison, the problem was discovered by the bank during the change of personnel back in 2009. The money had been taken and financial records had been forged to try and cover up the theft.

It was revealed that Gottschalk spent the money on car payments, vacation cruise tickets, summer camp for her daughter, and theater tickets. Gottschalk was sentenced to a year on house arrest and five years probation. She is also ordered to pay back all of the money that was stolen.

She had a history of theft and passing bad checks, but is not clear how those records were not found by the committee who hired Gottschalk.
