LEXINGTON, KY (FOX19) - US Marshals have arrested a man in Lexington who failed to register as a sex offender in Hamilton County Thursday.

John F. Cannada, 46, had been on the run from police since March 15, 2007, when police issued a warrant for failing to register as a sex offender. He had been convicted in 1997 for Gross Sexual Imposition of a Minor.

Cannada has prior convictions of Sexual Battery of a Minor, Failure to Register, and Domestic Violence.

Investigators found Cannada living in Lexington under the alias Joe Jones. Investigators with the United States Marshal's Service in Southern Ohio along with U.S. Marshals from the Eastern District of Kentucky located Cannada at a residence on North Hampton Drive in Lexington, KY.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Brian Hilsinger stated, "this arrest is significant for the citizens of Hamilton County, Ohio and the citizens of Fayette County, Kentucky, due to the fact that Mr. Cannada is a convicted sex offender who has knowingly failed to register as required by law. Mr. Cannada has gone as far as to live under an assumed name to avoid apprehension by law enforcement."

Cannada was arrested without incident and is being housed at the Fayette County Jail awaiting extradition back to Hamilton County.
