CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)-- MLB.com's Mark Sheldon is reporting that the Reds and pitcher Edinson Volquez have come to terms on a one-year deal. The Reds have not officially announced the signing.
ESPN Deportes reported Saturday that the deal would likely be for $1.6 million to avoid arbitration.
Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said Wednesday that he had hoped to sign Volquez to a multiyear contract, like he had with several others this winter.
Jocketty told Sheldon Sunday, "We'll see if they're up for doing more later," He went onto say, "We tried to do a multiyear deal. They just wanted to concentrate on the one year now. [Volquez's agent] had a few cases and wanted to get the arbitration thing out of the way."
