Homeowner catches burglary suspect

WAYNE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A man is behind bars after he was caught burglarizing a home, then chased by the homeowner.

It happened just after 3 p.m. on Nakiya Lane in Wayne Township. A homeowner called 911 to report that he had arrived home and discovered a burglary in progress, and he encountered one male subject inside the residence.

The homeowner advised that the male fled out of the back door of the residence and he gave chase. He said the suspect entered a vehicle that was parked in his backyard and began to drive off. The home owner gave the dispatch center a description of the vehicle being driven by the subject. The homeowner followed the fleeing suspect, providing a direction of travel to dispatch until the vehicle was stopped by OSP in Brown County on US 50, just east of SR 131.

The suspect was secured by OSP until Clermont County Sheriff's Road Patrol arrived. There was a large gun safe in the back seat of the vehicle in plain view. The gun safe was positively identified as the homeowner's.

The suspect was identified was Eric Lewis, 30, of Fayetteville, Ohio. He was transported to the Clermont County Jail and was charged with one count of Aggravated burglary, felony of the second degree.

The investigation is continuing in an attempt to identify and locate an additional subject who was believed to have been with Lewis at the scene of the Burglary.
