CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Police have charged two suspects with the murder of a teen in North Avondale Wednesday.
Police have charged 18-year-old Rufus Hummons and a 17-year-old with the murder of Uriah Ware, 17.
The victim's father, Uriah Ware, Sr., said it's a step toward receiving justice, but it still won't bring back his only son.
"Yes, they called me today and said they arrested two suspects," Ware, Sr. said. "I was just thrilled about it."
After the phone call no parent hopes to get, Ware, Sr. received the call every victim's family prays for: two teenagers were found and charged on Wednesday with the murder of his son.
"It helps because it lets you know that another chapter is closed," Ware, Sr. said. "You can at least move on now knowing that you have some time of culprits arrested. It definitely helps."
Police said both suspects are already in jail on unrelated charges.
Ware, Jr. was found by police shot to death at the former National Guard Armory on Reading Road January 22nd. He was leaving a party when the shooting occurred. Police believed Ware was an innocent bystander.
"He was just am upbeat person," Ware, Sr. said. "He loved life. He loved sports. He's a 17 year old boy so he loved girls, of course. Just a typical 17 year old kid. I'm just going to miss him a lot. I'm going to miss him a lot."
Ware told FOX19 he knows the suspects; adding both gunmen and his son grew up together. Now, he has this message for the young men who police said took his son's life.
"Senseless shooting," Ware, Sr. said. "You see what can happen. Now a lot of lives are at stake. A lot of lives lost."
Hummons will be arraigned on Thursday morning.
