Clermont Teen Driving Forum hopes to reduce crashes
BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) -- Clermont Safe Communities is hosting a Teen Driving Forum on Tuesday to reduce crashes among teenagers in the area.
In Clermont County, four teenagers died in car crashes in 2010. The Center for Disease Control reports that eight teens die every day in crashes. The CDC also says the risk for car crashes is the highest among 16-19-year-olds, compared to any other age group.
Because of those startling statistics, Clermont Safe Communities is hosting a Teen Driving Forum on February 8 between 9:30am and 1:30pm at UC Clermont College in Batavia.
A team of six students from each school has been invited to attend the forum and will feature a variety of presentations. One of the presentations will be from Skip Phelps. His 15-year-old daughter, Miranda Phelps and her friend, Lauren Dietz were killed in a car crashed after leaving Northwest High School in 2007.
Other presenters will include Andrea Rehkamp for Mothers against Drunk Driving (MADD), Ricky Birt from Students against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Lt. Randy McElfresh from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and many others.
