HAMILTON (FOX19) - Butler County has a new prosecutor.
The Butler County Republican Party has appointed 65-year-old Michael Gmoser as the new Butler County Prosecutor. Gmoser was also the interim prosecutor.
The party had the right to fill the job after Republican Robin Piper left to become a judge. Gmoser was appointed interim prosecutor several weeks ago by the Butler County commissioners when Piper left office. Gmoser will now fill the remainder of the current term.
Gmoser won the job on the first vote Tuesday night, beating out a pair of Piper's former assistant prosecutors who had been feuding, as well as other candidates.
Gmoser, whose name is pronounced with a silent 'G', is a longtime attorney who is part of the firm Holcomb, Hyde, and Gmoser,
Gmoser has practiced in civil and criminal practice, personal injury, wrongful death, and medical malpractice, but one of his most publicized cases may not have drawn on too many of those skills. In 2006 he represented a Hamilton City prosecutor who was spotted on surveillance cameras walking naked around his office and the surrounding hallways at night. The assistant prosecutor lost his job, but the charges against him were dropped.
