Founder of Samuel Adams launches microloan program for small businesses

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Newly elected U.S. Senator Rob Portman attended a press conference with Samuel Adams' founder Jim Koch Friday afternoon in Cincinnati to announce a microloan program that will help small business owners in Ohio.

Koch introduced the "Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream" program to current and start-up Ohio small business owners in the food, beverage and hospitality industry. In 2008, The Boston Beer Company launched Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream in New England. Partnering with ACCION USA, the world's largest non-profit provider of microloans, Boston Beer established a loan fund to provide much needed funding to small business owners.

The program also provides one-on-one mentoring and coaching, as well as educational seminars to help small business owners make critical business decisions. More than 55 business owners across New England have received loans, hundreds have benefited from the educational components of the program and over 500 jobs have been created.

For the first time, loans will be available to small businesses in Ohio.
