CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - An Avondale man tries to avoid the death penalty after pleading guilty to the murder of his 19-month-old son.
James Lyons, 28, has been charged with aggravated murder, felonious assault and child endangering. Lyons' son Jaden died of head trauma in September of 2009 in North Avondale, after months of severe abuse.
The sentencing phase of Lyons trial begins Monday, when defense lawyers will make their case for a lesser sentence. Lyons faces a minimum of 25 years to life behind bars.
Lyons' attorneys initially opted out of a jury trial so jurors wouldn't have to see the graphic autopsy photos of the victim, Jaden Jenkins.
