FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19) - The Kentucky State Police release a report saying 12 people have died in 12 separate crashes on Kentucky roadways from February 14th through February 20th.
Eleven of the crashes involved motor vehicles and six of the victims were not wearing seat belts. Single-fatality crashes occurred in Harlan, Jefferson, Knott, Madison, McCracken, Pike, Rockcastle, Russell, Spencer, and Whitley (2) counties. The crashes in Madison and Russell County involved the suspected use of alcohol.
One pedestrian involved crash occurred in Jefferson County.
Through February 20th, preliminary statistics indicate that 77 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways during 2011. This is 12 less fatalities than reported for the same time period in 2010. There were 66 motor vehicle fatalities and 42 of those victims were not wearing seat belts. 10 of those crashes involved a commercial motor vehicle. 11 crashes involved pedestrians. A total of 13 fatalities have resulted from crashes involving the suspected use of alcohol.
