Coast Guard investigating alcohol leak in Ohio River

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Coast Guard responded to an isopropyl alcohol leak into the Ohio River.

Around 5:30 a.m. Monday morning, the captain of the tug vessel Bridget Cauley notified the Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley that alcohol was leaking from the top portion of a barge that Cauley was pushing. An unknown amount spilled on to the deck of the barge while going into the river just five miles south of Cincinnati.

A temporary patch was placed over the hole securing the leak. The Bridget Cauley will remain under a Captain of the port order until final repairs are made.

A pollution investigation team from the Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment in Cincinnati was sent to the scene.

The incident is still under investigation.
