COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Fat Tuesday isn't until next week, but the Mardi Gras celebration begins this weekend at MainStrasse Village in Covington.
Festivities are Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m.
On Friday, entertainment includes the Big Head Parade and music from the Naked Karate Girls. Saturday's entertainment includes the Grande Parade and music from 4th Day Echo.
The parades run from 9th Street to 6th Street and west on 6th Street to the Entertainment Tent.
Baubles, bangles and beads will be available at MainStrasse Village business and also at the Goose Girl Fountain and the Mardi Gras Entertainment Tent.
Covington Police will be increasing patrols during the event to ensure everyone remains safe.
"'We're just hear to maintain order and so everybody can enjoy the festival," said Col. Spike Jones with Covington Police.
Tickets are $15 for both nights or $10 for each night. Tickets are available online, at Cock and Bull English Pup and at Pachinko, or by calling the MainStrasse Village office at 859-491-0458. You must be 21 to purchase a ticket.
