FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - The Fairfield Police Department are warning residents of Fairfield of a phone scam that could potentially make you the victim of identity theft.
According to police, some residents have received phone calls from a person asking them if they want to lower their credit card rates. The caller then tries to obtain information about the resident's current credit card account.
What makes this scam particularly deceptive, the caller ID screen on the resident's phone displays the name "City of Fairfield."
The City of Fairfield wants residents to know that their employees would never ask for credit card information when they call you. If you receive a similar phone call, do not give the caller any information and contact the Fairfield Police Department at 513-829-8201.
Never give a credit card number over the phone to a person who has called you unless you are very certain that the request is for a valid purpose.
