WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - Members representing a gay, lesbian, and transgendered group protested outside of Speaker of the House John Boehner's West Chester office on Wednesday. Five members were arrested out of twenty protesters.
The protest began at about 3:00 pm Wednesday at Boehner's West Chester office. Members of the group GetEQUAL Ohio met outside the office, and wanted Boehner to vote against the In Defense of Marriage Act.
However, the chants began to cause some problems for area businesses.
According to police, the owner of the property asked the group to leave. When that did not happen, they called the police.
Captain Joel Herzog of the West Chester Police said that the protesters were warned by uniformed cops and non-uniformed cops to get off the property or risk arrest on charges of criminal trespassing. Eventually, five individuals were arrested.
After the arrests were made, police say the protests continued without incident.
