HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - Up to 20 people are temporarily homeless after an apartment fire Thursday morning on South B Street on the west side of Hamilton.

Smoke and flames were pouring from a third floor apartment living room when firefighters arrived.

Two people had escaped the building on their own, and four more were escorted out by the fire department from apartments that were not involved in the fire.  Most people weren't home at the time.

It only took firefighters a few minutes to knock down the flames.  Damage is estimated at $70 thousand to the building, and $10 thousand to property inside it.

Firefighters says it was started by a child playing with matches.

The Red Cross was called in to help 12 adults and 8 kids who were forced out by the flames.
