Fifth Third Foundation Donates $100,000 to Japanese relief efforts
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Fifth Third Foundation announced a donation of $100,000 to The American Red Cross ($75,000) and Matthew 25: Ministries ($25,000). The funds will assist disaster relief efforts after the devastating earthquake and Tsunami in Japan.
"We are deeply saddened by the events of last Friday in Japan," said Kevin T. Kabat, president and CEO of Fifth Third Bancorp. "Our employees recognize the need to help. We hope our contribution will assist, in some way, the Japanese people in their time of need."
The devastating 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit off the Japanese Coast Friday, March 11, triggering a 30-foot tsunami that left more than 10,000 people unaccounted for and hundreds of thousands without homes.
"Our heartfelt prayers go out to those in Japan in this time of great need and uncertainty," said Heidi B. Jark, managing director of the Fifth Third Foundation. "We hope this donation will help those responding to the disaster provide much-needed assistance for the difficult rebuilding days to come."
