CINCINNATI, OH (FOX 19) – A national sub sandwich chain will be handing out free food for the start of the end of the Mercy Heart Mini Marathon and Walk on Sunday.
Cincinnati area Subway restaurants say they will be giving out 15,000 sandwiches at the finish line of the race on March 20th. As participants cross the finish line, the chain also says they will be greeted by local SUBWAY crew members who will be giving out Subway cards loaded with 50 points that can be used for a free regular 6" sub at participating area Subway locations.
"We are in our stores and our communities every day, so we know the challenges that face our area. One of those challenges is obesity and heart disease," said Jennifer Tefs, a local SUBWAY franchisee. "Subway has always provided a variety of healthy menu options to our customers, and we see Sunday's mini marathon and walk as another way to demonstrate we care about our community by rewarding our friends and neighbors who come out to raise money to fight heart disease on Sunday."
The Subway chain says they have long encouraged everyone to live healthy, active lives complete with nutritious foods and regular exercise. In addition Subway is the national sponsor of the American Heart Association's Start! Heart Walk™ program as well as Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart, educational fund-raising programs that engage students in a physical activity while raising funds to support lifesaving heart and stroke research.
"We are grateful for Subway's support at the Heart Mini," said Jennifer Hauck, Senior Corporate Accounts Director of the Cincinnati office of the American Heart Association. "Having Subway on board locally has helped us reach a record number of participants. The Subway cards they are providing will be a great enhancement for our runners and walkers."
Subway says they will also have crew members running and walking in the events on Sunday. As many as 18,000 participants have registered for this year's event.
