COLUMBUS—With 20 seconds left on the clock and the game tied at 46, LaSalle turned to senior Brandon Neel. The ball slipped from his hands and Matt Woeste jumped up and laid the ball in the basket.
"We gave the ball to Brandon, he had the hot hand," said Woeste. "No one boxed me out, so I jumped up there and just tipped it in."
LaSalle beat Toledo Central Catholic 48-46 and will advance to the state finals tomorrow at Ohio State's Schottenstein Center at 8:30
Neel scored 23 and Ryan Fleming had 11 on the day.
LaSalle interim head coach Pat Goedde was emotional after the game.
"Me being an alumni guy and seeing that red up there in the stands, that's cool. That's pretty special" he said.
Midway through the second quarter it looked like LaSalle would cruise to the state title game. The Lancers outscored the Toledo Central Catholic Irish 13-4 in the second quarter to take a 22-12 lead at halftime.
Toledo Central Catholic fought back though, outscoring the GCL South co-champs 17-9 in the third, to bring the game within two points at 31-29.
