Xavier Women's basketball coach Kevin McGuff is taking over as head coach of the women's program at the University of Washington.
McGuff is the Muskies winningest coach with 214 wins in nine seasons. The Muskies have played in five consecutive NCAA tournaments under McGuff coming up just short of the Final Four in 2010.
"The Xavier women's basketball program has come a long way since coach McGuff took the job in 2002," Xavier University Athletic Director Mike Bobinski said. "I am very thankful for all his work in developing the program to the point where it is today. We have been one of the elite programs in college basketball including finishing in the top 10 in the nation the past two years. I wish him the best of luck as he moves on to the University of Washington."
According to Bobinski, a nationwide search for a new coach will begin immediately. "I think we have a very attractive position," he said. "We will take the time to conduct a thorough search to find a qualified candidate who best fits the mission of Xavier University. It is my intention to not comment publicly on specific candidates or the search while it is in progress."
