A North Carolina man is facing several charges after leading police on a chase and then being bitten by a Madeira K-9 officer.
Eric Joseph Zapata, 36, of Fayetteville, N.C. was observed driving with no lights on Interstate 71 around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Police say Zapata failed to stop until he was on Hunt Road in Blue Ash. He then started fleeing again after being instructed to shut off his engine. He almost hit another Hamilton County cruiser head on when he went left of center on Hunt Road.
Zapata then bailed from the vehicle at Northside Bank on Kenwood Road and fled towards Blue Ash Road. He was apprehended a short time later by a K-9 officer and sustained bites to his left side.
Zapata is being charged with felony fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest, OVI, no operators license and no headlights.
