The Cincinnati area chapter of the American Red Cross held its first major test of the new Disaster Operations Center, Saturday.
The drill simulated a major regional flood to test the Chapter's ability to respond and provide relief services to the region.
The drill evaluated the chapter's ability to set up the Disaster Operations Center and begin responding to the disaster in a timely manner. This includes mobilizing volunteers and staff to organize disaster assessment, shelter operations, mass feeding and canteening, medical and mental health assessment, public affairs and communications and disaster fundraising.
The test allowed volunteers and staff to practice their skills so they are ready to respond in a real emergency situation.
