UNION COUNTY, IN (FOX19) -

The Department of Natural Resources and the Indiana State Police are investigating a drowning at Brookville Lake.

Police say Rodger Shands Jr., 32, a disc jockey from Springdale, had been dancing on the rear deck of the drifting watercraft when he fell out at around 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening. He began to struggle to stay afloat.

Another boater jumped into the water in an attempt to pull him out, but was unable. Other passengers on the boat were overcome by cold water.

Crews pulled Shands from the lake just before 11 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The owner and operator of the boat, Shea Barth, was arrested for boating while intoxicated.
