BLUE ASH, OH (FOX19) - For the past several weeks, students at Ursuline Academy have been holding a canned food drive.
The students are competing against each other to see who can bring in the most canned food. The food will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul, Mason Food Pantry, Mercy Neighborhood Ministries and Hope Emergency Program. Personal hygiene items will also be included in the donation.
The canned food drive came to a close on Wednesday morning when the donations were boxed up and weighed to be delivered to agencies later this week. The students collected between 16,000 and 18,000 pounds of food.
"Fourteen percent of Ohians go to bed hungry every night. We can make a difference," said student Jen Holbrook. "The people we are serving are within our area-we are touching them."
Ursuline has sponsored a canned food drive for the last 30 years. The end of the drive is part of Spirit Week at Ursuline.
