LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) - A Cincinnati native is the winner of the Hollywood Poker Open World Poker Tour, held this week at Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg.

Mike Scarborough, 34, beat five players including Las Vegan and Poker Hall of Famer Erik Seidel, who is is widely considered the most successful tournament player in the history of poker.

Scarborough picked up a straight on the turn card to beat Seidel's pair of nines in the final hand.

Scarborough, Seidel and third-place finisher William Reynolds of Sioux City, Iowa played nearly seven hours of three-handed play until Scarborough knocked out Reynolds.

"This win is just a dream come true.  It means so much more to me to win in my local casino," said Scarborough.  "Playing with Erik Seidel was very intimidating at first. But I just told myself to play like you would with anybody else."

The Hollywood Poker Open main event began on April 9 with 97 players putting up $10,000 each to play.  Final table action began at 4:45 p.m. on April 13 and concluded at 2:20 a.m. on April 14.

Scarborough won a WPT silver Tiffany bracelet and $273,664, which includes a $25,500 paid entry to the WPT World Championship in Las Vegas in May.  He currently lives in the Western Hills area of Cincinnati and intends to use the money to buy a new house. He and his fiancé Lora Gildea have planned a wedding for later this year.

Before the main event, Scarborough pledged $2,500 in earnings to the ALS Association Central and Southern Ohio Chapter in honor of his stepmother. His main event sponsor, Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg, matched the donation.
