PRICHARD, AL (RNN) - An Alabama man is in police custody and another hospitalized in serious condition after police say his eyes were gouged out with a spoon.
Family members arrived home to find a bloodied 79-year-old Bonnie Pogue, and called 911.
While paramedics were working on Pogue, and with police officers present, Timayo Knight, 30, made a startling statement. He said he had "plucked his uncle's eyes out."
Knight was immediately arrested and charged with first-degree assault. A search of the home revealed a bloody spoon on the kitchen table and Pogue's eyeballs in the trash, according to a statement issued by police.
Pogue is in the intensive care unit at USA Medical Center in Mobile, AL, where he is listed in serious condition.
