FORT THOMAS, KY (FOX19) -

Flags across the Commonwealth of Kentucky will be at half staff Friday in honor of a Ft. Thomas soldier killed overseas.

Funeral services are being held Friday for Brandon Pickering, 21, who died April 10 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire and a rocket propelled grenade in Wardak province, Afghanistan on April 8.

The funeral was Friday morning at 10 a.m. at the Bank of Kentucky Center on the campus of Northern Kentucky University. Burial follows at Alexandria Cemetery.

There were reports that the Westboro Baptist Church, a Topeka-based group that regularly protests military funerals, was going to protest at the funeral, but they did not show up.  A group of NKU students gathered to support the family if the protestors did appear.

A visitation was held Thursday for Pickering, who is a 2008 graduate of Highlands High School.
