A jail prisoner in Butler County is accused of assaulting a corrections officer.
Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones says Corey Stewart, 40, of Hamilton, was unprovoked when he attacked David Schueller, 58, a six-year veteran of the Corrections Division.
Stewart is now facing an additional charge of assault on a police officer in addition to the possession of drugs and violation protection order charges he was originally facing. He has been in the Butler County Jail since his arrest on March 12.
Jones said the alleged assault happened Thursday around 11 a.m. when Schueller was conducting a security check on the second tier level of his cell block Steward punched, choked, and attempted to throw Schueller off the second tier.
Schueller was able to radio for assistance during the struggle, and responding officers were able to gain control of inmate Stewart, ending the attack.
Schueller was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries.
