A group opposed to Senate Bill 5, called We are Ohio, is holding a petition signature drive event this afternoon, as it looks to gather nearly a quarter of a million signatures.
We are Ohio was cleared last week by the state's attorney general to begin collecting the more than 231,000 valid signatures needed by June 30 to get a referendum on the ballot this November.
The law signed by Gov. John Kasich last month bans public employee strikes and restricts bargaining for more than 350,000 state workers, teachers, police officers and others.
Today's event runs until 2 p.m. at the Unity Missionary Baptist Church at 3126 Fairfield Avenue in Cincinnati.
We Are Ohio will be scheduling similar drives in county seats across the state in coming weeks.
