Appalachian Festival at Coney Island cancelled due to high water

High water cancels another event at Coney Island. The 42nd Appalachian Festival was supposed to happen over Mother's Day weekend, due to the recent flooding rains the festival won't happen this year.

"There is not too much else we can do because of the high water at Coney Island," said festival chair Allison Raisor. "We are already looking forward to next year."

The three-day family event was to help raise awareness of Appalachian culture. The event recreates authentic mountain life with down home music, dance, storytelling, food, crafts and a living history pioneer village.
