Police to begin "tagging" vehicles that could be targeted by thieves
Residents around Cincinnati may begin seeing notes on their cars, but they aren't tickets.
Cincinnati Police are launching an initiative to prevent theft from autos.
Members of the Cincinnati Police Department are working with volunteers from Citizens on Patrol, Target and students from the University of Cincinnati's Criminal Justice Program to spread awareness and crime prevention tips for thefts from vehicles.
Teams of officers and volunteers will place "report cards" containing crime prevention information on windshields of vehicles, starting in Hyde Park and Oakley.
Cincinnati Police participated in the initiative last year as well. Thefts from vehicles declined 22 percent in September 2010 compared to the previous year. For October, the decline was 17 percent. In November 2010, there were 8 percent fewer of these offenses than in the previous year. December 2010 saw 30 percent fewer theft from vehicles than December 2009.
