Crossing state lines for cheap gas

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) -

Traveling from Ohio to Indiana and Kentucky, the cheapest price FOX19 found was at Swifty Gas in Florence at $3.89 a gallon.

Which raises the questions: Who would have thought drivers would be lining up to pay close to four dollars a gallon for gas?

David Winters traveled from Lawrencebug, Indiana where gas prices are well over four dollars peaking at $4.15 a gallon. "We come up with an excuse to come up and do some shopping and I wanted to get some extra gas," says Winters.

Winters heard prices were cheaper in Florence and with a gas guzzling truck and he even brought extra containers to make the trip extra affordable. "I was almost low or empty but I got 17 gallons of gas there. It helps me a lot because I go to a lot of flea markets and yard sales. I travel a lot," says Winters.

Swifty Gas says it sees people like Winters every day, crossing state lines to save money. "$4.14 or $4.00. Every penny helps, so if you are a penny cheaper you are going to be twice as busy," says attendant and manager William Gilreath.

And with gas prices not expected to improve any time soon, many drivers say they will continue to search for the lowest price around.
