The Cincinnati Museum Center hosted the Jovante Woods Foundation's inaugural 5k asthma walk-run on Saturday morning, in addition to a "Breathing Right Should Not Be a Fight" asthma screening and education fair.
Jovante Woods died suddenly last August from a severe asthma attack. Jovante's father, former Bengal Ickey Woods, and mother then were inspired to educate and help prevent others from experience the loss that they went through, so they started the Jovante Woods Foundation. The foundation benefits the Cincinnati Children's Division of Asthma Research.
The event began at 9 a.m. with the 5k race. The education fair continues until 2 p.m.
The education fair will feature asthma screening and education, a presentation by the director for Asthma Research at Cincinnati Children's, and a coaches clinic that focuses on early warning signs of an asthma attack and preventative measures that should be implemented before and after exercise.
