Ohio State won the volleyball national title—the schools' first—in five sets on Saturday night over California Santa-Barbara in State College, Pa.
Ohio State lost the first set 20-25, before winning sets two and three 25-20 and 25-19. They lost the fourth set 22-25 before taking the fifth and final set 15-9.
Ohio State seniors Steve Kehoe and Derek Kues both graduated from St. Xavier high school in 2006. Jason Tobkin, a fifth-year senior at OSU is from Fairfield High School. Kehoe was the 2006 Player of the Year when the Bombers defeated Moeller for the state title.
Kehoe participated in the block that won the match for the Buckeyes. Kehoe's sister, Bryn, won a national title when she played at Stanford as a freshman in 2004.
UC Santa Barbara defeated previously No. 1 ranked Southern California on Thursday night. Ohio State defeated the home team, Penn State, to get to the title match.
