CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Ohio River Trail is scheduled to open Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony and inaugural walk.
The trail connects a 1.1 mile gap at Lunken Loop Trail to Schmidt Playfields and Riverview East Academy, creating a 7 mile paved biking, walking and running path.
The trail was made poss bile through $2.2 million in city and federal construction funding.
The City of Cincinnati converted an abandoned railroad spur, city property and public streets into space for non-motorized transportation and recreation.
The project also features several green infrastructure elements: diverting stormwater from a treatment plant to a water quality basin; remodeling a freight transfer terminal into an iconic gateway; and recycling steel railroad track into fence posts.
