Maifest is this weekend at Covington's Mainstrasse Village.
Maifest is based on the German tradition of welcoming the first spring wines and one of the first major festivals for the Tri-State region. It has been voted a top 20 event for May 2011 by the Southeast Tourism Society and one of the Top Ten Festivals in Kentucky for the Spring of 2011 by the Kentucky Travel Industry Association.
The festival features arts and crafts and German and international food and beverages, as well as live music from top local performers.
It will also include a street chalk drawing contest on Saturday with cash prizes for adult and children's categories and a Baby Mai contest on Sunday in Goebel Park.
Maifest lines over six city blocks along 6th and Promenade, Main Street and Philadelphia Street, and extends into Goebel Park. It attracts around 125,000 families and regional travelers.
Hours are Friday, May 13 from 5 to 11:30 p.m.; Saturday, May 14 from noon to 11:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 15 from noon to 9 p.m.
Admission is free and parking is available in the IRS parking lot at 4th and Johnson Streets.
