Man arrested after shooting at officer and into crowd

SPRINGFIELD TWP, OH (FOX19) - The Springfield Township Police Department has arrested a young man, after he fired shots at an officer and a crowd of people outside a nightclub Saturday morning.

A Springfield Township Police Sergeant was called to Club Cabo in the 11000 block of Hamilton Avenue around 2 a.m. Saturday morning for a report of a disorderly crowd. The officer tried to control the crowd and was waiting for assistance to arrive when 21-year-old Takla Woffard opened fired at the officer and into the crowd.

An unidentified 26-year-old man was shot in both legs, but the sergeant was not hit. The officer returned fire at the suspect, who ran through the parking lot and into a wooded area. Nobody was hit by the officer's shots.

After a search by Fairfield and Forest Park K-9 units, the suspect was found and taken into custody.

The shooting victim was taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Woffard was treated for minor injuries and taken to the Hamilton County Justice Center. He has been charged with two counts of Felonious Assault and Resisting Arrest.
