Students fill Great American Ball Park for FOX19 Weather Day
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
Getting a day off from school and getting inside Great American Ball Park is half the fun for tri-state students nearing the end of the school year.
"I've been really excited about coming here, I've been waiting from the first day of school," says 5th grader Max Ogden.
More than 5,000 students from schools across the tri-state enjoyed a day of Reds baseball and weather at the third annual FOX 19 Weather Day.
The entire FOX 19 Storm tracker team was on hand to answer questions and show off their forecasting skills.
Tornadoes are always a popular topic for students and they got to see first hand how they form in the FOX 19 tornado maker.
Students were also able to try their hand as a meteorologist against the green screen and get autographs from their favorite forecaster.
And amongst all the excitement, teachers hope their students take away more than just a fun day at the ball park.
"When you can get some education in the process and get core content along the way, you kill two birds with one stone, making it fun and educational all along the way," says 5th grade teacher Jeff Kinney.
Even without a sunny day for FOX 19 Weather Day, the Reds say attendance was way up, about 1,500 more than last year.
