Robert Smith was adjusting the flag on his front porch when he heard the telltale snap.
The tree in his front yard fell in the next second, narrowly missing him and crunching his newly paid off car.
Smith says he barely had time to get out of the way, and survived by the grace of God. He told FOX19 he thinks the trees roots could no longer take the pressure of weeks of strong storms and high winds. He says the tree that fell has been part of his landscaping for several decades.
"I am extremely lucky. I am touched by an angel. I was just touched by God. The car is smashed, the car is under here, and the truck is under this mess, but I wasn't," says Smith.
Smith is just one property owner of dozens in Norwood reporting damage as a result of Monday night's storms.
Smith says he does have insurance and hopes his car (which he believes is a total loss) will be covered.
