According to police he was meeting with 27-year-old Nathaniel Williams Jr.  who was staying at the hotel in a different room. Williams went to the victim's room to retrieve an undetermined amount of money. There was an altercation between the two and Williams pulled out a small caliber revolver and shot the victim in the stomach.

The Florence Police SWAT team was called to the scene to search the suspect's room, but he fled the scene.

Officials are in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant for Nathaniel Williams Jr. for attempted murder. He is described as a black male who stands at 5 feet 10 inches, thin build.
