A man is facing several charges after a standoff in Colerain Township.
Late Monday night, officers responded to the 2300 block of Hidden Meadows Drive on a report of a person discharging a gun in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
When officers arrived, they were unable to locate the suspect. Shortly after, a man matching the suspect's description emerged from a residence with a handgun in his hand. He was immediately confronted by officers, but failed to comply with their orders to remain outside the apartment and retreated back inside. He failed to respond or communicate further with officers and attempts to contact him inside the residence were unsuccessful.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department's Special Response Team was activated and responded to the scene. The SRT was eventually able to make contact with the suspect and he voluntarily surrendered.
Two females, an adult and a juvenile, who were inside the apartment, were not injured. They were reportedly asleep during the incident.
The handgun was recovered in the apartment, along with cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
The suspect was identified as Earl Smith, 32. He is charged with obstructing official business, using weapons while intoxicated, inducing panic and drug paraphernalia as well as possession of drugs and having weapons under disability. He was taken to the Hamilton County Justice Center.
