BUTLER COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - Only 54,000 new jobs were added in the month of May nationally, that is the lowest growth since September of last year.
In Butler County the unemployment rate is 8.5%, just under the national average, but there has been some big businesses that have cut jobs this year.
"CEVA Logistics is closing later this year, that's roughly 200 people," said Kathleen Williams, business manager for Workforce One in Butler County. "BAE announced another down sizing of about 120 people. So there has been a significant number of private employers shedding jobs in Butler County, unfortunately."
On the other hand Williams said they do get calls about job openings daily, however the amount of people being hired is far less than those being laid off.
"We've seen a steady stream of what we call job orders from smaller employers maybe they're hiring five people, two people, three or sometimes more than that," said Williams.
Williams says the most it's important thing to do is stay optimistic.
