CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Shriners Hospitals for Children is sponsoring a summer burn camp, and it all kicked off on Sunday afternoon.
Children from all over the United States came to Cincinnati to start a week-long summer camp experience that will include fishing, archery, rafting, canoeing, swimming, high ropes and dancing.
The campers vary in age from 9-16 and represent 17 different states and 33 Shrine temples.
"Spending time with these kids at camp, you can see the determination, will and strength of their character- even when they probably would have wanted something else from life and yet, they continue to be positive and enthusiastic about opportunities ahead of them," says Katie Schabell. Schabell is a child life specialist at Shriners in Cincinnati and has been a camp counselor for the past five years.
The camp runs until June 10 at Camp Kern, a YMCA camp 30 minutes north of Cincinnati.
