Seniors on state champ baseball team getting own graduation after missing ceremony

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Seniors on the Lakota East baseball team are getting their own separate graduation ceremony on Monday after they had to miss graduation with their classmates to play in the state baseball championship.

Lakota East won the Division 1 Ohio state baseball tournament on Saturday by beating Perrysburg, 6-2, at Huntington Park. It was the school's firs state team championship.

But in order to win the championship, the seniors had to miss their graduation, which was being held Saturday morning at Miami University.

East will host its baseball graduation prior to the team banquet on Monday night in the high school gymnasium for Thunderhawk seniors JD Whetsel, Craig Thomson, Nick Norris, Brian Evans, Jesse Rait, David Kovac, Damon Lander, Evan Hills, Zak Kloenne, Mark McDaniel, Nick Kloenne and Mitch Geers.
